As many of you are aware, the AUA have recently become CPD accredited by The CPD Standards Office. You may also know that historically, our association has not been a big fan of the usual CPD bodies due to the questionable validity of such providers. We are happy to say that we consider The CPD Standards Office to be the exception to our scepticism, and here are the reasons why, in their own words…
“There are a number of independent accreditation services in the UK. The truth is, The CPD Standards Office is the only one based on research and with an Expert Advisory Board that oversees our assessment process. This means our assessment process is not only rigorous and therefore carries the credibility and recognition that it does, but it is also reviewed by an independent panel to ensure we are also keeping up to standard. https://www.cpdstandards.com/about-us/our-authoritative-and-educational-remit/
The Panel is made up of the following members:
Richard Gott, who founded MemberWise Network,
Amanda Rosewarne, our CEO who is an occupational psychologist,
Professor Sunitha Narendran, Director of Research, and Head of Business and Management at the Royal Docks School of Business and Law, University of East London,
Susie Kay, Founder of The Professionalism Group,
Dr Stephen Gourlay-Reader in Leadership, HRM and Organisation at Kingston University Business School, and is an Academic Member of the CIPD
Callum Grant is a Director of Trailight, a compliance technology business.

The CPD Standards Office is also the only CPD accreditation service in the UK that is part of the CPD Forum and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Skills and Employment, this gives us unrivalled expertise across Learning and Development and CPD which in turn enables us to share knowledge with our members and offer the best advice we can.
We are also endorsed and have a new and exclusive partnership with The Institute of CPD.
Jonathan Harris CBE, pioneered the idea of CPD in 1981, initially founding ‘The Continuing Professional Development Foundation Lecture Programme’ for property and surveying professionals, which is now renamed as ‘The Harris Foundation For Life Long Learning’. In 1995, he established ‘The Institute of CPD’ which is supported by the following trustees: Sir Denis Pereira Gray Kt OBE, Vivien King, Lord Bichard of Nailsworth KCB, Dame Gillian Guy DBE. https://www.cpdinstitute.org/our-history-foundations/
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a mechanism that formalises adult lifelong learning into a structured process. It is defined as the learning activities that professionals engage in to develop their competence and enhance their abilities. CPD enables learning to be proactive and conscious, rather than reactive and passive.
There are over 2500 professional institutes in the UK alone, with a collective membership of 5 million professionals. Their membership requires an annual commitment to CPD learning. Hence it is important that relevant learning for CPD has been accredited, and is advertised correctly as CPD training.
The CPD Standards Office (CPDSO) accreditation ensures that CPD provision is varied, engaging and effective. The assessment process at the CPD Standards Office has been based on the CPD Research Project into new and better ways of doing CPD, and aims to ensure that the learning provided delivers transferable skills. Since its creation, the process is reviewed and updated regularly, in partnership with the CPD Standards Advisory Board, (mentioned above) which is a group of academics, professionals and professional bodies that all contribute to ensure the process moves with the learning and development industry.
Accreditation through the CPD Standards Office means that any professional, from any industry, can claim a CPD certificate from an approved provider. It is a streamlined process, and for training providers with a rich and diverse set of delegates; it saves time and money registering with multiple institutes and regulators.
Animal Ultrasound has been a member with the CPD Standards Office since 2022, and has successfully completed the rigorous CPD and Provider of Training Excellence (PTE) assessment process for their insightful trainings for professional veterinarians. Their DUAL accreditation sets them apart as a trusted provider of training excellence and enables them to issue formal CPD certificates post training courses, ensuring their delegates can achieve their mandatory and reflective CPD requirements.
By completing CPDSO accredited learning activities, delegates can be confident that they are consuming high quality, innovative and informative content that will provide knowledge that is immediately applicable in the workplace. Whether professionals have a mandatory CPD record to maintain or not, undertaking and recording formal CPD is a great way to demonstrate your commitment to keeping up to date.”
