Retained Placenta

This was a routine after whelping scan. I could clearly see at least two retained placentas, the bitch was referred to the breeders vet who administered Oxytocin. Five hours later she expelled a substantial amount of green and black membrane. The bitch was bought back to me again the next morning to double check she was empty, but I could still see some retained membrane, and the bitch felt extremely hot and looked very very poorly. I advised the owner she should be taken to the vet asap. Her temperature was 42, she was put on a strong course of antibiotics, she was very poorly and when she got home to her puppies, she unfortunately attacked two of them, and both of these babies passed away. She was taken away from her puppies and they were hand reared.
