Rubina is around 51 days pregnant. At this stage, it can be difficult to separate one pup from another, and only one heartbeat could be confirmed – although it certainly looked as though there was a second puppy behind. In the second video, I scan through an empty section of uterus. It is fluid-filled and this may come out as an empty sac when she gives birth, but the fluid shows up on ultrasound as reassuringly black, which tells us that there is nothing abnormal here....

I saw Violeta, a lilac chihuahua, for a pregnancy scan today. Anything over 30 days post-mating is easily detected by an experienced user of ultrasound, and it was clear that Violeta was not pregnant. In the clip below, the scan begins at her bladder, travels up the midline imaging the intestines, and ending at the liver (where the gallbladder can be briefly spotted)....

Beautiful pregnancy scan on Poppy the miniature poodle today. All of the puppies are well developed with strong heartbeats and movement. Poppy is a tiny little dog and in great physical condition, which made her images crystal clear....

Molly is approximately six weeks pregnant. We managed to see several strong, active puppies. In the video below, you can see one pup moving its paws around, before the transducer is rotated and she same puppy can be seen drinking the amniotic fluid that surrounds it. Later, we see two puppies side by side, and in the second clip, a quick look at a lovely healthy heart....

I don’t normally get to scan a dog so close to her due date. Kibeth the Cockapoo is due next Wednesday, and it was a joy to see her strong and healthy puppies. The still picture shows the head of one of the puppies (measuring 2.3cm). The first video shows two different puppies, and the second video shows one of the foetal hearts in detail, where you can clearly see the muscular walls of the left ventricle pumping, and the right ventricle wrapped around it....
