Lessons from the cows
Had fun with Yvette at the Museum of Kent Life today. Even after 6 years, I always learn something new when scanning, and learnt today that scanning non dairy cows is considerably more difficult! Cows are, of course, scanned rectally, and whilst ultrasound happily propagates through liquid faeces, it doesn't travel so well through the more solid variety that results from the different diet of these show cows. Without writing a whole essay on cow poo, let's just say we did work out a solution to the problem soon enough, and were able to get some nice images of the uterine horns, ovaries, and very some full bladders.
